The mod_unique_id Apache module adds an environment variable to each Apache request. Apache sets the environment variable to a unique identification number (unique ID) for each Apache request.

Use the unique ID to reference a specific Apache request. For example, you can use unique IDs in Mod Security rules.

Vendor documentation

The following text is an excerpt from the documentation:

This module provides a magic token for each request which is guaranteed to be unique across "all" requests under very specific conditions. The unique identifier is even unique across multiple machines in a properly configured cluster of machines. The environment variable UNIQUE_ID is set to the identifier for each request.
