Requirements

Before you install Ruby, make certain that you meet the following installation requirements:

  • Your server must run CentOS 6 or 7, Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® (RHEL) 6 or 7, or CloudLinux™ 6 or 7.

    We do not currently support Ruby on Rails installations on CentOS 7, CloudLinux 7, or RHEL 7.


  • You must possess root-level access on the server.
  • Your server's installation of yum must function properly.

    To test your YUM configuration, log in to your server via SSH as the root user and run the following command:

    yum list ruby

    If you do not see any errors after you run this command, your YUM configuration functions properly. The output of this command should resemble the following example:

    Setting up repositories
    update                    100% |=========================|  951 B    00:00
    base                      100% |=========================| 1.1 kB    00:00
    addons                    100% |=========================|  951 B    00:00
    extras                    100% |=========================|  951 B    00:00
    Reading repository metadata in from local files
